Dear Stroud Choral Friends
re:10th Anniversary Concert for Stroud’s Young Singers
The Minpins and Stroud Choral Youth Choir are performing in an amazing
anniversary concert at St George’s Church in Nailsworth on Saturday 5th April at
6:30 pm conducted by their founder and choral director, Zoë Hynes.
The Minpins choir was set up 10 years ago to offer choral singing opportunities to
children in Years 3-7 in the Stroud district. Their first major performance was with Stroud
Choral Society in “The Pelicantata” based on Roald Dahl’s book “The Giraffe, The
Pelly and Me”. Their name came from Roald Dahl’s last book of the same name and
their patron is Roald Dahl’s wife Felicity (known to the choir as ‘Liccy’).
The children’s choir was so successful, Zoë had to set up Stroud Choral Youth Choir
in 2017 for those who had grown out of The Minpins but wanted to continue their
choral singing. Their reputation for professional performance levels way beyond their
years has made them a local choral favourite.
The concert will feature both choirs (that’s over 40 singers) with songs from John
Rutter, Paul Simon, Cesar Franck, Leo Delibes and Lionel Bart. They also welcome back some former members for a joint piece during the performance.
Every birthday has a cake and the icing on the Minpins and SCYC cake is also the
grand finale. A specially commissioned piece “Pop Goes the Weasel and other
Nursery Songs” from Peter Ash who wrote their original Roald Dahl piece. Zoë
describes the piece as “A thrilling compilation of nursery songs sung like you’ve
never heard them before” – with the final piece sung by all members of both choirs - Truly an unmissable and moving moment for everyone.
The concert starts at 6:30pm and tickets are £14 for adults, £4 for under 18s and Pre-School Children are free available from TicketSource (bit.ly/Minpins10) or on the door.
We hope to see you there.
Best wishes,

Dear Stroud Choral Friends,
Thank you for your continuing support.
I am sure you will want to know about the wonderful concert our choir is doing this weekend of Handel's Samson, accompanied by the Bristol Ensemble and six professional soloists.
Samson was a hugely popular piece in Handel's time, and remains an oft-performed dramatic oratorio to this day.
The perfomance will be on Saturday 15th March in the Parish Church of St John Baptist in Cirencester, starting at 7pm.
Please see our poster below.
Tickets are availble at the door or here.
