WHO is Stroud Choral Society?

We are one of the oldest amateur choirs in the UK, performing in front of audiences in Stroud and beyond since 1834. Stroud Choral Society comprises an adult choir of around 120 members and children's and youth choirs of around 50 members. We perform at least four concerts each year in and around Stroud, including Cirencester, Nailsworth, Minchinhampton, Tewkesbury and other venues. For details of all our concerts since 2000 click here

Our next concert will be a performance of The Canterbury Pilgrims by George Dyson, on Saturday 21 November 2026 at 7.00 pm  in Tewkesbury Abbey.

Composed in 1931 by George Dyson who was was inspired by
Geoffrey Chaucer'sThe Canterbury Tales, (written in the 14th century). Dyson's vivid musical portraits of the pilgrims soon became a popular choice for choral societies. Less well known in the 21st century, we are delighted to perform The Canterbury Pilgrims again, with thanks to the The Dyson Trust for their financial support.
